English Language Challenges

I think that English classes at the University are more dynamic and I learn with a better way; one year ago, write more than a phrase in English was impossible for me. When I was in the secondary, I had classes two times per week, but I believe that I didn’t learn anything. My classmates and I were in a lesson for an hour and a half and I would say that we lost one hour every week, the rest was a grammar review with contents that we were seeing six years ago. In summary, even with online classes, I learned over this language much more this year than many years in the secondary.

Talking about the blogs, I like the idea, because we can express our opinions over different topics and write about things that we enjoy. Also, I like that we participate in the class and this don’t be like a monologue, although I’m a little nervous when I have to talk.

I really consider that I don’t applicate the English talking in my daily life. I hear it everyday in a lot of songs, YouTube videos and a Netflix series, or I could read it in social medias or some articles, nevertheless, I never need to talk in this idiom. I would love to travel to another country and test all I learn. However, I feel that I need to practice the listening much more; that part is very important but is difficult for me yet, especially the British accent.

I’ve thought to go to an English institute for consolidate my learnings, with more reason if I want to visit many places around the world.

My study programme

When I entered the university in March, I have never hoped that I would have online classes all the year. This has been a very different experience for all of us, and it has been difficult, especially for those of us in the first year.

We have had both semesters divided in two parts, theoretical and practical. That helped me to relieve the academic charge. I feel that I do not have a lot of homework and I like the subjects, nevertheless, the mental fatigue is a big problem. Really, I think that I could learn much more in another context.

How in the first year of architecture the work is analogous, in part it has been complicated, because all the time we must digitalize our sketch or take photos of our models and the teachers cannot see the real assignment. If someone has a question, there are a few opportunities for asking and many times we cannot share ideas between us, but the teachers make as possible for we can understand the concepts and materials, all this is more analytical, and we must work with more autonomy. Nonetheless, I feel that I have learned many things about arts, history, geometry, or photography. Definitely, the workshop subject is intense but very useful. For this reason, I hope that the presential modality return soon.

About the infrastructure of the Fau, I like the faculty building, but I have read that is not very modern and there are not many resources as in others universities, or even the Fen, but in this moment I cannot say much.

My opinion

In my opinion, the politicians have been a problem since Chile was funded in the XIX century. In general, presidents, parliamentarians or mayors were part of a powerful elite. Along the history, they have defended the economic heritage above the needs of the people, and they have harmed the life of original towns, workers, minorities and so on.

I think that buy pets it is wrong; it could motivate that some races be steal, being obligated to have breedings and be victims of maltreatment. We need to rescue the dogs in the streets, they need a family that give them lot of love.

From my point of view, the marijuana must be legalized for motives of recreation and medicine, as long as the use is moderate, and its sale is regularized. Nowadays, the consume of this drug is very common in our country. Talking about other drugs, its legalizing depends on the effects and risks.

Unfortunately, the human being (especially the most powerful and wealthy people) has contaminated and destroyed forests, the air, the oceans, the flora, fauna, and ecosystems around the world. For that reason, we will see the serious consequences in the next years, abrupt changes in the global temperature, in the weather and the sea level. Now, we have to protest against the companies and the disinterested politics and change our habits and lifestyle to lessen the damage produced. At the present, the recycling is important, thanks for it it’s possible to avoid the generation of a lot of garbage.

My future job

I honestly have not decided what kind of job I will have in the future, but I have many ideas: For example, I’m interested in the digital work with a lot of programs: Sketchup, Autocad, Revit and so on. I like the rendering so much, so I want to take some courses in the next years. Also, I would like to take a Postgrade course, it could be about a sustainable architecture or the urbanism, those are important aspects today. Also, Since I was a child, I liked to play videogames about decoration and interior design and go to a construction store and see the colors and furnishing and imagine modern spaces, I love it so much! I would like to travel to many countries like Japan, Spain, or Italy and learn about different architectural styles, live and work there for a while and know a diversity of perspectives and cultures. Moreover, I am interested in the design of public spaces, an important part of the city, and these are badly needed today in communs of Santiago, where there are neither green areas nor spaces of recreation. Really, I would love to make everything, but I must also be realist. I do not hope a big salary and all these things are very expensive, so I must be patient and be dedicated in my studies.

My best holiday ever!

In March of the past year, my family and I went to the South of Chile for first time. Also, it was the first time I travel in a plane, so I was so excited! We stayed in a house in Puerto Varas, it is a beautiful place, I love their iconics buildings and houses and the weather there is nice. The Llanquihue Lake and the volcanos make an amazing landscape. One day we made a tour in the Osorno Volcano, in the “Lake of all Saints” and Petrohue. Besides that, my brother and I went to a restaurant with free buffet, we enjoyed it a lot! After two days we take a bus to Frutillar, there we ate a delicious kuchen and went to the German Museum. Later, we went to the Andean Larch’s National Park, we walked for five hours approximately and saw the tallest Larch, a few hours later we went to eat cheesecake and next day we came back to Santiago. That week was so special and funny, I had beautiful moments with my family, I would like to return there one day with them.

The next destiny: Japan

I would like to go to Japan! I love that country since I was a child (thanks to anime and videogames haha). Tokyo is the principal city that I want to know. Walk around those streets and stores full of lights, it must be exciting! Also, I wish to see the mount Fuji. I never eat Japanese food before, but I hope taste it soon. This country has a lot of modern technology in a big building as much as a simple bathroom. Their minimalism architecture is so beautiful and functional. I really love the Sou Fujimoto’s work, and the NA house is one of my favorites architectural creation of him. I’m also interested in his culture; I think that Japan’s tradition it’s very different and this motives me for to know their reality. So, if one day go, I’ll come back to Chile with new ideas, experiences and knowledge. In the next years I would like to live there for a few months, learn much and work, I really hope to make all this! Japan is a very expensive country, but worth going.

The music I love

Since I was a little boy I hear a lot of songs, my mother turned on the radio every weekend and the music make me felt so relax, excited and happy! My favorite musical genre is pop, I love a lot of singers, among those, Adele (“Set fire to the rain” and “Rolling in the deep” are my favorite songs), Lana del Rey, Lady Gaga or Lady Gaga. Years later I watched The Voice in YouTube and the TV, I really loved that TV show because many singers were so fabulous, and the covers were amazing! Now I can hear music in Spotify, it’s more comfortable and I can listen to music when I want. I have never gone to a concert, I was to go to Camila Gallardo Concert in May, but it wasn’t possible (I hope to go in November, but I’m not sure yet). I don’t sing very well, anyway I like singing karaoke. I didn’t have music classes in the last four years, so I only learned to play the flute when I was a kid. The music is one of the most beautiful things in the world, and without it the life would be really bored, I can’t imagine it!

My photos!

One year ago, I started to be interested in the photography, especially from the architectural type. I never have had a camera. I would like to buy a semiprofessional camera, but I don’t have any money. When I will have my camera, I going to post a lot of photos in my Instagram account (Actually is very empty😭 ). I expected to learn a lot of photography this year, but I cannot to take many pictures in my home, so I must wait coronavirus disappear. However, I have learned about photographic edition thanks to Domestika courses. Instagram accounts like “archdaily” or “arossettik” and Pinterest help me for have inspiration. Also, youtubers like Marcos Alberca have a good photography content, it’s fun and motives me to learn more.

I toke these photos with my cellphone in Puerto Varas (we can see the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church at the first picture), and the “Lake of all saints” in Los Lagos Region. I travelled with my family to there in March 2019, I enjoyed those holidays! Actually, it is a beautiful place and I like nature. I hope to come back soon!

Reading

When I was a child, I liked to read Disney’s tales and enjoyed to see illustrations at Atlas. At that time I was eight, and my father gave some books to my brother and me, we were so happy! Also, I love to read fiction books like “Fahrenheit 451”. In the school I had to read “Loco Afan”, written by Pedro Lemebel and “Perfume: the story of a murderer”. Both books excited me! Now I am a little lazy and I do not like to read in a digital format. Moreover, books in Chile are so expensive, that saddens me. Anyway, occasionally I read something. Recently I read “Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone” in two days, (I hope to read the rest of the saga soon) and “Mars: the next frontier” by Jose Maria Masa in one day, where the astronomer explains the history of the space exploration, trips to the moon, technological advances and our future in the red planet, when the humans arrive there. I definitely recommend it, specially for science’s lovers.

My favourite piece of technology

If you ask me, the computer is a piece of art! I used my brother’s computer since I was four years old, I really loved play games like The Sims, Age of Empires 2, Mario Bros and Grand Theft Auto. When I was twelve years old, my mother and my aunt gave to me a computer, I played with it everyday. However, that computer broke down in 2017, so my brother lent me his notebook until this year. Recently I could buy a new notebook gamer, my family love the computer and I love it too. Now I can study better, I watch YouTube and Netflix series, I search information quickly and I enjoy learning to use programs like Autocad, Photoshop and Illustrator while I listen to music, and play Minecraft or Age of Empires again, my favorite games at this time. The notebook funs and helps me, especially in this quarantine. If I don’t have it my days would be longers and borings.

Why did I choose this career?

I want to be a veterinary! This is what I would answer if someone asked me what I
wanted to be when I was a child, although I liked to make basic models with my father.
Time after, I had different career options in my mind, for example, I thinked to study
astronomy or audiovisual communication. Years later, I decided to study architecture
when I was in high school, after my art’s teacher asked for us to make perspective
drawing, and I really loved that homework. Nowadays I like the career, enjoy drawing
and have had good grades. However, the most difficult aspect has been the online modality, it wears me out, so I hope to go to the Fau soon. In the future, I would like to work in the architectural design and illustration, specially for public spaces and houses.

My autobiography

Who am I?

Hi! Let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Agustín Moya Díaz and I was born in Santiago, Chile, in 2001. I grew up in Conchali, and I studied at Camilo Henriquez School, where I made good friends. In 2017 I started to study in Miguel Rafael Prado. This year I entered to architecture career at the Universidad de Chile, but a big pandemic started and now we have online lessons. Really I don't like that modality, but I like the career. In my free time I like to play videogames and listen Dua Lipa, Camila Gallardo or Lana del Rey's music. Also I love watching movies and series on Netflix.
My brother studied at Usach and now he is matron. Actually he works at San José Hospital, so he strives so much. We are in home with our dear mom and dad and our beautiful dogs.
